Settling In – Week 2

This week, the children in 2H have been enthusiastically creating actions for the story of Kassim the Greedy Dragon by Pie Corbett. In their phonics sessions, they have been carefully practising their sounds as well as segmenting and blending. In Geography, the focus was on exploring where the countries of the United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales) were situated on a map. In mathematics, the children have been exploring place value by making links between numerals, words and tens and ones. It’s been another busy week and a chance for the children to begin settling into year 2 routines. A super start to the year 2 curriculum 2H!

Welcome to Year 2

A huge welcome to the children and parents of 2H. It has been an absolute pleasure meeting the class and several of the parents.

The children have had a busy first week at school. They have been trying really hard to follow the classroom rules and have been practising ACE walking (lips locked, facing forward, hands at their side and walking smartly). Several times this week, the class have been praised by staff members for their ACE walking. A great start! The children have also been working on their presentation in their maths books. They have practised using a ruler so that they can underline the date neatly in their books.

The children have had the opportunity to explore different emotions and have met Chewy the worry monster. They have enjoyed several creative activities including, drawing a colour monster, creating an emotions monster and mixing primary colours with paint. They also visited the orchard today so most of the children have an ACE apple in their bag, ready to be eaten once it is washed.

It has been very hot indoors and out this week but the children have coped well. A super start to the term 2H.
